What Our First Collection Says About Us
Up to now, all I could do was tell you what we hoped to be as a gallery. Now that we are actually open, I can show you what we are. Our first collection of images is now hung, and it says a lot about that and how we might be a little different than what you might expect. Today I thought I’d explain a bit about how that is the case.
About the Collection
Our first collection consists of a series of images Roben and I took on a trip to Ireland last September. There are 26 images in the collection, and we have hung 17 of them in the gallery. We call it the first part of our “perspectives” series, because one of the really interesting things we noticed in creating them is how different we saw things. You will immediately notice, for example, that some of the images are in black and white (those are Roben’s) and some are in color (those are mine). The perspectives are different too. The initial response to the images was very gratifying. The collection is all the more interesting to us because we were standing in the same places at the same times in the same conditions, and still ended up creating wildly different images.
Change is Our Constant
That the images are all from one trip – rather than a greatest hits collection from our entire photo career – says something about how we will approach things in this gallery. Since this is but one collection, that implies that there will be more. And that is true! Many more, in fact. Some collections will be things we do together, some will be separate. Some will even be by friends and colleagues. They won’t all be geography-based like the Ireland collection, but will be based on different themes.
The one constant will be change though. We want your next visit to our gallery to be different than your first. We hope to keep changing things to give you a different experience every time you walk in.
Collaboration is Key
The fact that this initial collection was joint project also shows a little bit about how we are different. Walk into any other gallery and I doubt you will find any joint projects. Most photography galleries are solo artists. Some galleries have multiple photographers, but they are simply run by a gallerist who picks them and they still work independently. By working together, I believe we are unique in this regard.
I also believe that it benefits you in that you can enjoy different perspectives of the same subject matter. It greatly expands what we can offer. Our first collection is a great demonstration of how different we see things, and it contains images that no one artist could ever do themselves.
Come See for Yourself
It is one thing for me to tell you about our gallery, it is another for you to see for yourself. If and when you are near Carmel, Indiana, we hope you will pop it in and check it out. One of our additional attributes we hope to foster is a welcoming vibe with plenty of information about what we are doing, but also with space for you to enjoy yourself. So come by, have a cup of coffee, and check it out!
