The Creation of "Sasha"
In Fall of 2022, master photographer and co-owner of Behn Gallery, collaborated with the Indiana Ballet Conservatory to create original pieces of art inspired by the story of the Nutcracker. Sale of these prints directly helps to support the Indiana Ballet Conservatory and the dancers who study there. The Indiana Ballet Conservatory is a not for profit, pre-professional ballet school committed to providing the best classical ballet training to its students and launching the next generation of dancers onto the world stage. IBC students continually place in top positions in national and international competitions and pursue professional careers in dance around the world. Behn is always looking for ways to help support the arts community, which is invaluable our community.
How can you support the Indiana Ballet Conservatory and Local Arts?
This collection of Nutcracker pieces was created in collaboration with the Indiana Ballet Conservatory (IBC). 50% of all proceeds from the purchases of this collection will go directly to the Indiana Ballet Conservatory to support their program and dancers.
Earlier this fall, Behn gallery was approached to offer an art piece for an auction that would help IBC raise money to support their program. Co-owner and master photographer of Behn Gallery agreed, but under the condition we could collaborate to make original pieces of artwork with the dancers at IBC.
With the production of the nutcracker around the corner, it seemed like a perfect theme to set us in a direction. Roben then conducted research leading him to find inspiration in the story of Tchaikovsky as he was commissioned to write the music for the Nutcracker. Though a series of life events and tragedy in his life, the music for the Nutcracker became much more than a commission.
These pieces were created to reconnect to the origin of the story of the Nutcracker and allow us to travel back in time to realize that these dancers are doing more than performing. Through their art of ballet, they are upholding a tradition that began over 500 years ago. Many stories have transpired along the way and many more will come.
Art is meant to help us see deeper and find our place in the stories. We are all connected.
Please show your support for The Indiana Ballet Concevatory and Behn Gallery. Local artists bring culture, beauty, thought, and connection to their communities. We all have a part to play in our communities and need one another to continue the growth and inspiration that leads to creativity and innovation.
